22nd Annual Future Educators Association® National Conference
February 18-20, 2011• Atlanta, Georgia

Conference Competitions

Two types of competitions are offered at the annual Future Educators Association® conference each year: individual competitions and FEA chapter competitions. Both are popular learning opportunities that allow students to develop skills that are relevant to educators. More information about competitions is provided below.

Information about registration for these competitions will be announced later in the year.

FEA LEADERSHIP AWARD

The FEA Leadership Award honors members who exemplify the characteristics that the Future Educators Association® seeks to develop among its members, including sound leadership qualities and a strong commitment to improving education in local communities. This award is given to FEA members who have made notable, voluntary contributions to education and, in doing so, demonstrated outstanding initiative, impact of work, and inspiration of others. The FEA Leadership Award is the highest honor that an FEA member can earn.

INDIVIDUAL COMPETITIONS (one entry per chapter)

Essay Competition
The purpose of the Essay Competition is to provide students with an opportunity to express their views on a current topic in education.

Impromptu Speaking
Because much of our daily speaking occurs in extemporaneous or impromptu forums, the Impromptu Speaking Competition is designed to help participants develop valuable leadership skills, including confidence in public speaking and the ability to clearly express one’s thoughts orally. There are separate categories for middle school and high school students.

Lesson Planning
The purpose of the Lesson Planning Competition is to give students who are interested in education-related careers practice in developing and implementing a lesson plan.

FEA Moment
The purpose of the FEA Moment Competition is to showcase eight students at the FEA conference whose FEA experience has been a convincing factor in his or her decision to become an educator.

Stage Staff
This event is designed to be a leadership experience. Members of the stage staff will gain experience in public speaking and build self-confidence as they lead attendees through the entire conference weekend. Stage staff members introduce featured speakers and provide flair during the conference; they have multiple opportunities to speak and motivate the crowd during general sessions.

CHAPTER COMPETITIONS (one entry per chapter)

Public Service Announcement
The Public Service Announcement Competition was developed to allow FEA chapter members to work collaboratively on a project requiring teamwork, creativity, and the use of multimedia technology. The goal of the Public Service Announcement (PSA) is to elevate the image of teaching for those in the education profession.

2012 Conference Theme Development
The purpose of the National Conference Theme Development Competition is to provide students with an opportunity to develop a relevant, interesting, and attractive theme for the next conference.

EXHIBITION

Chapter Scrapbook Exhibition
The Chapter Scrapbook Competition is now an exhibition event. It is no longer a competition. This exhibition encourages all FEA chapters to plan yearly activities in keeping with the goals and objectives of FEA (as described in the Handbook for Chapter Advisors). Activities should benefit FEA members, the school, the FEA organization, and the community. The scrapbook’s purpose is to document the chapter’s activities for the year and serve as a recruiting tool.
